[QF-Test] Connecting an SUT to a running QF-Test instance

  • Subject: [QF-Test] Connecting an SUT to a running QF-Test instance

Dear QF-Test users,

let's suppose you like to test (some parts of) your application during
development or you just code a Java class for usage in a Jython SUT script
- you will probably find it convenient, if your SUT, launched from an
integrated development environment like Eclipse, would connect to an
already running instance of QF-Test.

In fact, there's an easy way to achieve this: Just start the (Java-) IDE
itself from QF-Test. Its child processes will connect automatically to
QF-Test. Such a child process gets a client name derived from the parent
process: If for example the client name of your IDE is 'eclipse', the child
process will be named 'eclipse:2'. To make sure that subsequent starts of
your SUT take place with the same client name, you have to set the option

Options/Replay/Reuse IDs for SUT clients in nested sub-processes.

Because your IDE is under QF-Test control, you can in addition record a
sequence to launch your SUT (in debug mode): That's one click testing and
debugging - maybe we should apply for a patent ...

Best regards,
   Robert
