Hello Mr. Schmid,
it does not work as I expected it.
If the horizontal cell size increases enough, then there is no match. The rectangular does not cover the picture anymore.
It is more stable to use that rectangular selection, but it does not guarantee that it compares the right pictures with each other.
Hard to explain, additionally in a foreign language. Maybe we talk over phone if it is not clear what I mean.
Besides that the green selection indication of the cell varies according to the look and feel of Windows or Java, no matter what rectangular selection is set.

region within the image can be defined, either by dragging a
rectangle or by editing the region attributes...

If the offset of the image also varies you can make those attributes
