Hello Robert,

indeed, the color change is just a visual side-effect that you can
suppress using the option 

"Recording->Highlight components when checking"

that you mentioned.

Normally qftest toggles fore- and background colors of the component
under the mouse in check recording and restores that state when
finished.

For some custom components this causes problems - therefore the option
to turn it off.
