we use Python to drive our own testing so I'm sure that works :-)

Perhaps your current working directory is not what you expect. Have
you tried specifying a full path with -runlog?

Besides, you should use only the extensions .qrl or .qrz for a
run-log. Otherwise you might get xx.log.qrz as a result.
